| Illustrating the Legumes of Arizona October 8, 15, 22, 29 and November 5, 2009 1 ~ 4 pm
This classroom opportunity will introduce you to the process of creating black and white illustrations. The focus will be on the native legumes of Arizona. A book is being written about these fascinating plants, and it is possible that some of the illustrations created in this class may actually be in the book. Even if the illustrations are not published, participants will gain experience in preparing illustrations according to a predetermined set of botanical standards. Work will begin by observing the specimen, noting what must be illustrated and how best to present these requirements to the viewer. After creating some preliminary sketches work will begin on a final piece, which will be completed in pen & ink. The authors of the book will ultimately decide which illustrations would be used, but this exciting process is open to all those who have an interest in working with professionals to create illustrations for publication. Fee: $145 Desert Museum members; $185 nonmembers.
